Born on August 31, 1955, in Vienna, Austria, Lippert grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Lippert was exposed to classical music and developed a passion for singing. Lippert began his musical training at the Vienna Music Academy, where he studied under the guidance of Professor Hilde Rössel-Majdan. He later continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he received his diploma in 1980. Lippert made his professional debut in 1981 at the Vienna State Opera, where he performed the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." This performance marked the beginning of a long and successful career for Lippert. He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and his ability to convey emotion through his singing. Over the years, Lippert has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Paris Opera. One of Lippert's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Wagner's "Parsifal" at the Bayreuth Festival in 1998.
