Vilde Frang is a Norwegian violinist who has established herself as one of the leading classical musicians of her generation. Born on August 19, 1986, in Oslo, Norway, Frang began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents were both musicians, and her mother was a violin teacher, so music was always a part of her life. Frang showed exceptional talent from a young age, and by the time she was ten, she had already won several national and international competitions. Frang's early musical education was at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where she studied with Professor Stephan Barratt-Due. She then went on to study with Ana Chumachenco at the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre, where she graduated with honors in 2007. Frang continued her studies with Christian Tetzlaff at the Kronberg Academy in Germany. Frang's career as a soloist began in 2007 when she made her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, she has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors, such as Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. One of Frang's most significant achievements was her performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2012. The performance was highly acclaimed, and Frang was praised for her technical skill and emotional depth. She has also received critical acclaim for her performances of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. Frang has won numerous awards throughout her career, including the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award in 2012 and the Echo Klassik Award for Best Newcomer in 2010. She was also awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2007, which is given to exceptional young musicians to help them develop their careers. In addition to her work as a soloist, Frang is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Frang is also a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. Frang is known for her commitment to contemporary music, and she has premiered several new works by composers such as Brett Dean and Matthias Pintscher. She is also passionate about promoting the works of female composers and has performed works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Kaija Saariaho, and Lera Auerbach. Frang has recorded extensively throughout her career, and her recordings have received critical acclaim. Her recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne was awarded the Diapason d'Or in 2013. She has also recorded the complete works for violin and piano by Mozart with pianist Michail Lifits and the complete works for violin and orchestra by Bartok with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Frang is known for her warm and expressive playing style, and her performances are characterized by a deep emotional intensity. She is highly regarded for her technical skill and her ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music she plays. Frang is also known for her commitment to musical education and has given masterclasses at institutions such as the Juilliard School and the Royal Academy of Music in London.
