Role:ComposerBirth:February 12, 1983 in South KoreaLavinia Meijer is a Dutch harpist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and innovative approach to classical music. Born on September 23, 1983, in Bussum, Netherlands, Meijer began playing the harp at the age of nine. She was inspired by her mother, who was a music teacher, and her father, who was a jazz musician. Meijer studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in harp performance. During her studies, she won several awards, including the Dutch Harp Competition and the Princess Christina Competition. She also received a scholarship from the Dutch government to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. Meijer's career as a professional musician began in 2003, when she won the Dutch Harp Competition for the second time. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented and innovative performer, and began to receive invitations to perform at major music festivals and concert halls around the world. One of Meijer's most notable performances was at the 2013 TEDxAmsterdam event, where she gave a mesmerizing performance of Philip Glass's "Metamorphosis Two" on the harp. The video of her performance went viral, and has since been viewed over 10 million times on YouTube. Meijer has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists, including the Dutch National Ballet, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the Kronos Quartet. She has recorded several albums, including "Metamorphosis / The Hours" (2012), which features her interpretation of music by Philip Glass, and "The Glass Effect" (2016), which includes works by Glass, Arvo Pärt, and Ludovico Einaudi. In addition to her performances and recordings, Meijer is also a passionate advocate for the harp and classical music. She has given masterclasses and workshops around the world, and has worked with organizations such as UNICEF and the Dutch Cancer Society to bring music to people in need. Meijer's talent and dedication to her craft have earned her numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2012, she was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a musician in the Netherlands. She has also been named a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, a prestigious honor bestowed by the Dutch government. Despite her success, Meijer remains humble and focused on her music. She continues to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new sounds and techniques on the harp. Her passion and dedication to her craft have made her one of the most exciting and innovative classical musicians of her generation.More....
