Xavier de Maistre is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as one of the world's leading harpists. Born on June 27, 1973, in Toulon, France, de Maistre grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor, and his mother was a singer, so it was only natural that he would develop a love for music at a young age. De Maistre began playing the harp at the age of nine, and by the time he was 18, he had won first prize at the Paris Conservatoire. He went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York, where he was mentored by the legendary harpist, Susann McDonald. In 1998, de Maistre was appointed principal harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held for over a decade. During his time with the orchestra, he performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Musikverein in Vienna. In addition to his work with the Vienna Philharmonic, de Maistre has also performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, and Riccardo Muti. De Maistre has also released several critically acclaimed recordings, including his 2010 album, "Concertos for Harp," which features works by Mozart, Ginastera, and Rodrigo. His 2015 album, "Aranjuez," which features works by Rodrigo and de Falla, was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award. In addition to his work as a performer, de Maistre is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Conservatoire de Paris. Throughout his career, de Maistre has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2006, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his artistic achievements. In 2010, he was awarded the Echo Klassik award for his album, "Concertos for Harp." And in 2016, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class, for his contributions to the arts in Austria. Despite his many accomplishments, de Maistre remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach around the world, inspiring audiences and students alike with his passion for music and his unparalleled talent on the harp.
