John Rutter is a British composer, conductor, and arranger of choral music. He was born on September 24, 1945, in London, England. His parents were both amateur musicians, and his father was the headmaster of a school in Highgate. Rutter showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He attended Highgate School, where he was a chorister in the school choir and began composing music. Rutter went on to study music at Clare College, Cambridge, where he was a member of the choir. He studied under the composer and conductor George Guest, who had a significant influence on his musical development. Rutter graduated from Cambridge in 1968 with a degree in music. After graduation, Rutter worked as a music teacher and conductor.
