Marisa Robles is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of harp music. Born on February 5, 1937, in Madrid, Spain, Robles was raised in a family of musicians. Her father, Antonio Robles, was a composer and conductor, while her mother, Maria Katarina, was a pianist. Robles began playing the piano at the age of four, but it was not until she was eight years old that she discovered her love for the harp. Robles received her first harp as a gift from her father, who recognized her talent and passion for the instrument. She began taking lessons with the renowned harpist Nicanor Zabaleta, who became her mentor and inspired her to pursue a career in music. Robles quickly became a prodigy, and by the age of 12, she had already performed her first solo concert. In 1952, Robles won first prize in the International Harp Contest in Israel, which marked the beginning of her international career. She went on to perform in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Robles also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Robles has recorded over 30 albums throughout her career, showcasing her versatility and mastery of the harp. Her recordings range from classical repertoire to contemporary music, and she has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Placido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to her successful career as a performer, Robles has also been a dedicated teacher and mentor to young harpists. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Juilliard School in New York, and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Robles has also written several instructional books on harp technique and interpretation, which have become standard texts for harp students around the world. Throughout her career, Robles has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the world of music. In 1985, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to music, and in 2006, she was awarded the Gold Medal of the City of Madrid. Robles has also been recognized by the Spanish government with the National Music Award and the Medal of Fine Arts. Robles continues to perform and teach, and her legacy as one of the world's greatest harpists is secure. Her dedication to the harp and her commitment to sharing her knowledge and expertise with future generations have made her an inspiration to musicians around the world.
