The group was founded in 1960 by the four Romero brothers: Pepe, Celin, Angel, and Lito. They were born in MĆ”laga, Spain, and grew up in a family of musicians. Their father, Celedonio Romero, was a renowned guitarist and composer who taught his sons to play the guitar from a young age. The Romero brothers began performing together as a quartet in the 1950s, and they quickly gained a reputation for their virtuosic playing and tight ensemble work. They were soon invited to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world, and they became known for their passionate and expressive interpretations of classical guitar music. One of the highlights of Los Romeros' early career was their performance at the Hollywood Bowl in 1963. They were the first guitar quartet to perform at the prestigious venue, and their concert was a huge success. They went on to perform at the Bowl many times over the years, becoming a beloved fixture of the Los Angeles music scene. In 1967, Los Romeros made their debut at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the group as one of the premier classical music ensembles in the world. They continued to perform at Carnegie Hall throughout their career, and they were always warmly received by audiences and critics alike. Over the years, Los Romeros have collaborated with many of the world's greatest musicians and composers. They have performed with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and they have worked with composers such as JoaquĆn Rodrigo, Federico Moreno Torroba, and Manuel Ponce. They have also recorded numerous albums, many of which have won critical acclaim and awards. One of the most memorable performances in Los Romeros' career was their appearance at the White House in 1983. They were invited to perform for President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy, and they played a program of classical guitar music that included works by Bach, Albeniz, and Rodrigo. The concert was a great success, and it helped to raise the profile of classical guitar music in the United States. Los Romeros have received many awards and honors over the years. In 1996, they were awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Bill Clinton, in recognition of their contributions to American culture. They have also been inducted into the Classical Guitar Hall of Fame, and they have received numerous Grammy nominations and awards. Despite the passing of Angel Romero in 2021, Los Romeros continue to perform and record. They have inspired generations of guitarists and music lovers around the world, and their legacy as one of the greatest classical music ensembles of all time is secure.More....
