He was born into a family of musicians, with his father, Celedonio Romero, being a famous guitarist and composer. Pepe Romero began playing the guitar at a very young age, and his father was his first teacher. At the age of seven, Pepe Romero made his public debut in a concert with his father and his two brothers, Celin and Angel. The Romero Quartet, as they were known, quickly gained fame and recognition for their exceptional musicianship and virtuosity. They performed all over the world, including in the United States, where they settled in 1957. Pepe Romero continued to study the guitar with his father and other renowned guitarists, such as Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream. He also studied music theory and composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 1960, Pepe Romero made his solo debut at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California. He was only 16 years old at the time, and his performance was met with critical acclaim. This marked the beginning of his solo career, which would take him to some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Throughout his career, Pepe Romero has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Pepe Romero's most notable performances was his rendition of JoaquÃn Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, conducted by Neville Marriner.
