David Drury is a renowned Australian classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music as a performer, conductor, and composer. Born in Sydney in 1963, Drury showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He went on to study music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in 1984 and a Master of Music degree in 1986. Drury's career as a performer began in the early 1980s when he won several prestigious awards, including the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year Award and the Royal Overseas League Music Competition. These awards helped to launch his career and he quickly became known for his virtuosic performances and his ability to interpret a wide range of musical styles. Throughout his career, Drury has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall in New York. He has served as the Artistic Director of the Sydney International Organ Competition and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and has also been a guest conductor with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Drury is also a prolific composer and has written many works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestras. His compositions have been performed by some of the world's leading musicians and have been featured on numerous recordings. One of the highlights of Drury's career was his appointment as the Organist and Master of the Choristers at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney in 1990. In this role, he was responsible for leading the cathedral's music program and overseeing the training of the choir. During his tenure, he introduced many new works to the cathedral's repertoire and helped to establish the choir as one of the leading choral ensembles in Australia. Another significant achievement in Drury's career was his appointment as the Director of Music at St. James' Church in Sydney in 2003. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the church's music program and leading the choir. Under his leadership, the choir became known for its high-quality performances and its commitment to promoting new works by Australian composers.
