He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Zakin began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He received his early musical education from his mother, who was a pianist, and later studied at the Kiev Conservatory. In 1920, Zakin and his family fled Ukraine due to the political turmoil and settled in Paris, France. In Paris, Zakin continued his musical education at the École Normale de Musique de Paris and studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Alfred Cortot. Zakin's talent and dedication to music were evident, and he quickly gained recognition as a promising young pianist. In 1925, Zakin made his debut performance at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, which was a significant milestone in his career. He continued to perform in various concerts and recitals throughout Europe, and his reputation as a talented pianist grew. In 1939, Zakin moved to the United States and settled in New York City. He quickly established himself as a prominent pianist and began performing in various concerts and recitals across the country.
