Pavel Gililov is a renowned classical pianist and professor of piano at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. Born on August 18, 1950, in Kiev, Ukraine, Gililov began his musical journey at the age of six when he started playing the piano. He showed exceptional talent and was soon accepted into the Kiev Special Music School for Gifted Children, where he studied under the tutelage of Yakov Zak. Gililov's talent continued to flourish, and he went on to study at the Moscow Conservatory under the guidance of Lev Vlassenko. He graduated with honors in 1975 and went on to win several prestigious international competitions, including the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Gililov's career as a concert pianist took off in the 1980s, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta. Gililov's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Schumann. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, and his recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes has been widely acclaimed. In addition to his career as a performer, Gililov is also a highly respected teacher. He has taught at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 1998 and has also given masterclasses at many other institutions around the world. His students include some of the most promising young pianists of today, and many of them have gone on to successful careers as performers and teachers. Gililov has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art. He has also been awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the Moscow Conservatory and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev. Despite his many achievements, Gililov remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach, and his passion for music is evident in everything he does. His contributions to the world of classical music have been immense, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest pianists of his generation.
