Sonia Wieder-Atherton is a renowned cellist and classical music artist who has captivated audiences around the world with her unique style and virtuosic performances. Born in San Francisco in 1961, Wieder-Atherton grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. Her mother was a pianist and her father was a violinist, and they both encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Wieder-Atherton began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied with some of the most respected cello teachers in the world, including Maurice Gendron and Paul Tortelier, and went on to attend the Paris Conservatory, where she studied with André Navarra.
