Philippe Entremont is a renowned classical pianist and conductor who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on June 7, 1934, in Reims, France, Entremont was raised in a musical family. His father, Paul Entremont, was a conductor, and his mother, Marie-Louise Girod, was a pianist. From a young age, Entremont showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Entremont's talent was quickly recognized, and he was accepted into the Paris Conservatory at the age of ten. He studied under the tutelage of Marguerite Long, a renowned French pianist, and won several awards during his time at the conservatory. In 1953, at the age of nineteen, Entremont won the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition, which launched his career as a concert pianist. Entremont's early career was marked by numerous performances in Europe and the United States. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1958 and quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. He also began recording for major record labels, including Columbia and RCA, and released several critically acclaimed albums. In addition to his career as a pianist, Entremont also began conducting in the 1970s. He served as the music director of the Denver Symphony Orchestra from 1975 to 1986 and the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra from 1980 to 1986. He also conducted several major orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Entremont's repertoire as a pianist and conductor is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in classical music, including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Mozart's piano concertos, which he has recorded several times throughout his career. Entremont has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1973, he was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of the highest honors in France. He has also been awarded the Order of Arts and Letters and the National Order of Merit. In 2010, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Classical Music Awards.
