He later went on to study at the Paris Conservatory, where he was a student of Yvonne Loriod and won first prize in piano performance at the age of 16. Collard's career as a professional pianist began in the early 1970s, when he won the prestigious Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris. This victory launched his career and led to numerous engagements with major orchestras and conductors around the world. Collard quickly gained a reputation as a pianist with a remarkable technique and a deep understanding of the music he played. Throughout his career, Collard has performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Orchestre de Paris.
