He later continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he received a scholarship to study with Rosina Lhevinne. He won several prestigious awards, including the first prize at the Japan Music Competition in 1960 and the first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1966.
