Born on June 8, 1968, in Vaasa, Finland, Nylund grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Nylund made her professional debut in 1995 as Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème at the Finnish National Opera. She quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dramatic presence on stage. In 1997, she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival as Donna Anna in Mozart's Don Giovanni, which was followed by her debut at the Vienna State Opera as Fiordiligi in Mozart's Così fan tutte. Nylund's breakthrough role came in 2003 when she sang the role of Elsa in Wagner's Lohengrin at the Bayreuth Festival. Her performance was widely praised for its beauty, power, and emotional depth. She has since become a regular performer at Bayreuth, singing the roles of Sieglinde in Die Walküre, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, and Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Nylund has also performed at other major opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, and the Berlin State Opera. She has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, and Christian Thielemann. In addition to her opera performances, Nylund is also a sought-after concert singer. She has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder with the Berlin Philharmonic. Nylund has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2005, she was awarded the Pro Finlandia Medal, one of Finland's highest honors for cultural achievement. She has also been awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland and the Order of the Star of Italy. Despite her success, Nylund remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She is known for her meticulous preparation and attention to detail, and for her ability to bring a deep emotional connection to her performances. She continues to perform regularly around the world, and is considered one of the greatest Wagnerian sopranos of her generation.More....
