Born in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1949, Capova began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and later at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she was mentored by the legendary pianist Rudolf Firkusny. Capova's early career was marked by numerous competition wins, including first prize at the International Beethoven Competition in Vienna in 1970 and the International Chopin Competition in Marianske Lazne in 1971. These victories helped to launch her international career, and she soon began performing in major concert halls around the world. One of Capova's most notable performances came in 1978, when she played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. The performance was widely praised for Capova's sensitive and nuanced interpretation, and it helped to cement her reputation as one of the leading pianists of her generation. Throughout her career, Capova has been known for her deep musicality and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music she plays.
