Born on April 28, 1971, in Vienna, Austria, Kulman grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz musician, and her mother was a classical pianist. From a young age, Kulman was exposed to music and developed a passion for singing. Kulman began her formal music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where she studied voice under the tutelage of Hilde Zadek. She also studied with Walter Berry and Robert Holl. After completing her studies, Kulman began her career as a soloist, performing in various opera houses and concert halls across Europe. One of the highlights of Kulman's early career was her performance as Cherubino in Mozart's "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Vienna State Opera in 2002. Her performance was widely acclaimed, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most promising young mezzo-sopranos in Europe. Over the years, Kulman has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Paris Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She has also performed at major music festivals, such as the Salzburg Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival. Kulman's repertoire is diverse, ranging from Baroque to contemporary music. She has performed in operas by Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, and Wagner, among others. She has also performed in oratorios and cantatas by Bach, Handel, and Haydn. In addition to her work as a soloist, Kulman is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music. She has premiered works by several contemporary composers, including Wolfgang Rihm, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Johannes Maria Staud. Kulman has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 2008, she was awarded the ECHO Klassik award for her recording of Schubert's "Winterreise" with pianist Eduard Kutrowatz. In 2011, she was awarded the Austrian Music Theater Prize for her performance as Carmen in Bizet's "Carmen" at the Vienna State Opera. Kulman is also a dedicated educator and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at several music schools and conservatories, including the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In recent years, Kulman has expanded her artistic pursuits beyond classical music. In 2018, she released an album of jazz standards titled "Lieder ohne Worte" (Songs Without Words). The album features Kulman's unique interpretation of jazz classics, accompanied by a jazz trio. Despite her success, Kulman remains humble and grounded. She is known for her warm personality and her dedication to her craft. She continues to inspire audiences and fellow musicians alike with her passion for music and her commitment to excellence.More....
