Lambert Wilson is a French actor, singer, and director who was born on August 3, 1958, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. He is the son of Georges Wilson, a French actor and director, and Elizabeth Wilson, an English actress. Lambert grew up in a family of artists and was exposed to the world of theater and music from a young age. Lambert Wilson began his career as an actor in the late 1970s, appearing in several French films and television shows. He gained international recognition for his role in the 1983 film "Rive droite, rive gauche," directed by Philippe Labro. He continued to act in films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including "La Vouivre" (1989), "Suite 16" (1994), and "Jet Set" (2000). In addition to his acting career, Lambert Wilson has also pursued a career in music. He began singing in the early 1990s and released his first album, "Musicals," in 1992. The album featured songs from popular musicals such as "Les Misérables" and "The Phantom of the Opera." The album was a commercial success and helped to establish Lambert Wilson as a singer. Lambert Wilson's second album, "Wilson chante Montand," was released in 1996 and featured songs made famous by French singer and actor Yves Montand. The album was well-received by critics and helped to further establish Lambert Wilson as a singer. In 2004, Lambert Wilson released his third album, "Dessins de mémoire," which featured original songs written by French composer Bruno Fontaine. The album was a departure from Lambert Wilson's previous albums, which had focused on covers of popular songs. "Dessins de mémoire" was well-received by critics and helped to establish Lambert Wilson as a serious musician. In addition to his music career, Lambert Wilson has also directed several theater productions. He made his directorial debut in 1997 with a production of "Les Parents terribles" by Jean Cocteau. He has since directed several other productions, including "Le Songe d'une nuit d'été" by William Shakespeare and "La Cantatrice chauve" by Eugène Ionesco. Lambert Wilson's most notable performance in classical music came in 2014 when he was chosen to host the 68th Cannes Film Festival. During the opening ceremony, he performed a rendition of Jacques Brel's "Amsterdam" in tribute to the late Belgian singer. The performance was well-received by the audience and helped to further establish Lambert Wilson as a musician. In addition to his music and acting careers, Lambert Wilson has also been recognized for his humanitarian work. He has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme since 2005 and has worked to raise awareness about issues such as poverty, climate change, and gender equality. Lambert Wilson has received several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1993, he was awarded the César Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film "La Crise." In 2008, he was awarded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. In 2012, he was awarded the Prix du Brigadier by the French National Actors' Union in recognition of his career as an actor. In conclusion, Lambert Wilson is a multi-talented artist who has made significant contributions to the worlds of music, theater, and film. He has established himself as a serious musician with a unique voice and has been recognized for his humanitarian work.
