Period:RomanticModernGenre:ChoralOperaVocalKari Lovaas is a Norwegian soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1947, in Bergen, Norway, Lovaas grew up in a musical family. Her father was a conductor and her mother was a singer, so it was no surprise that Lovaas showed an interest in music from a young age. Lovaas began her musical training at the Bergen Music Conservatory, where she studied piano and voice. She later continued her studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where she received a degree in voice. After completing her studies, Lovaas began her career as a professional singer. Lovaas made her debut as a soloist with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in 1971, performing Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate. This performance was a huge success and marked the beginning of Lovaas's career as a soloist. She went on to perform with many other orchestras in Norway and around the world. One of Lovaas's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Richard Strauss's opera Salome. She performed this role at the Norwegian National Opera in 1980 and received critical acclaim for her performance. She went on to perform the role of Salome in many other productions around the world. Lovaas has also performed in many other operas, including Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte, as well as Puccini's La bohème and Tosca. She has worked with many renowned conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, and Claudio Abbado. In addition to her work in opera, Lovaas has also performed in many concerts and recitals. She has a particular affinity for the music of Edvard Grieg, and has performed many of his songs in recital. She has also recorded several albums of Grieg's music. Lovaas has received many awards and honors throughout her career. In 1982, she was awarded the Norwegian Music Critics' Award for her performance in Salome. She was also awarded the Grieg Prize in 1993 for her contributions to the performance and promotion of Grieg's music. Lovaas has also been recognized for her work as a teacher. She has taught voice at the Norwegian Academy of Music and the University of Oslo, and has given masterclasses in Norway and abroad. Despite her many accomplishments, Lovaas remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, and is a beloved figure in the world of classical music.More....
