Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt, also known as the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, is a classical music ensemble based in Ingolstadt, Germany. The orchestra was founded in 1964 by the Georgian conductor and violinist, Liana Issakadze. Liana Issakadze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1941. She began playing the violin at the age of five and went on to study at the Tbilisi State Conservatory. In 1964, she founded the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt with a group of fellow Georgian musicians who had emigrated to Germany. The orchestra quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and unique sound, which blended Georgian folk music with classical music. Over the years, the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt has had many talented musicians as members, including the violinist and conductor, David Oistrakh, who served as the orchestra's honorary conductor from 1972 until his death in 1974. Other notable members have included the violinist, Gidon Kremer, and the cellist, Natalia Gutman. The orchestra has performed all over the world, including in Europe, Asia, and the United States. They have played in some of the most prestigious concert halls, such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Carnegie Hall in New York City. The orchestra has also collaborated with many famous musicians, including the pianist, Martha Argerich, and the conductor, Herbert von Karajan. One of the highlights of the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt's career was their performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. They were the first orchestra from the Soviet Union to perform at the Olympics, and their performance was broadcast to millions of people around the world. The orchestra also received critical acclaim for their performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Salzburg Festival in 1991. The Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt has won many awards and accolades over the years. In 1986, they were awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples by the Soviet Union for their contributions to the arts. They have also won the German Record Critics' Award and the Echo Klassik Award for their recordings. Despite the many changes in the world and the music industry, the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt continues to thrive. They have released over 50 recordings and continue to tour and perform around the world. The orchestra's unique sound and dedication to preserving Georgian folk music have made them a beloved and respected ensemble in the classical music world.
