Born on 28th May 1971 in Munich, Germany, Markus showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later switched to the trumpet and joined the Bavarian Youth Orchestra, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for classical music. Markus went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where he received a degree in trumpet performance. He then pursued further studies in conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned conductors such as Christoph von Dohnányi and Ingo Metzmacher. Markus began his career as a conductor in 1999 when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. He quickly rose through the ranks and was soon appointed as the principal conductor of the orchestra in 2003. During his tenure, Markus led the orchestra in numerous performances and recordings, including a critically acclaimed recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 5. In 2007, Markus was appointed as the principal conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz in Austria. Under his leadership, the orchestra gained international recognition and received numerous awards for their performances and recordings. Markus also collaborated with renowned soloists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter and Lang Lang, further cementing his reputation as a world-class conductor.
