Traxel made his professional debut in 1952 at the Stadttheater in Mainz, where he performed the role of Tamino in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." He quickly gained recognition for his powerful voice and expressive performances. He performed at many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He was particularly renowned for his performances of Mozart's operas, including "Don Giovanni," "The Marriage of Figaro," and "Così fan tutte." In addition to his opera performances, Traxel was also a highly sought-after concert singer. He also received critical acclaim for his performances of the role of Don Ottavio in Mozart's "Don Giovanni," which he performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1966.
