Sébastien Daucé is a French conductor and harpsichordist who has gained international recognition for his work in the field of early music. Born in 1980 in the city of Nantes, Daucé showed an early interest in music and began studying the harpsichord at the age of six. He went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he received a degree in harpsichord performance. After completing his studies, Daucé began performing as a soloist and chamber musician, specializing in the music of the Baroque era. He quickly gained a reputation for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music. In addition to his work as a performer, Daucé also began to explore the field of historical performance practice, studying the original sources and manuscripts of the music he was playing in order to gain a deeper understanding of the composer's intentions. In 2006, Daucé founded the ensemble Correspondances, which specializes in the performance of French Baroque music. The ensemble quickly gained a following for its innovative and dynamic performances, which combined historical accuracy with a modern sensibility. Daucé served as the ensemble's artistic director and conductor, leading them in performances at major festivals and concert halls throughout Europe and North America. One of the highlights of Daucé's career came in 2014, when he was invited to conduct the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra in a performance of Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610 at the BBC Proms. The performance was widely praised for its energy and vitality, and cemented Daucé's reputation as one of the leading conductors of early music. In addition to his work with Correspondances, Daucé has also collaborated with a number of other ensembles and orchestras, including Les Arts Florissants, Le Concert Spirituel, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He has recorded extensively, with over a dozen albums to his name, including critically acclaimed recordings of music by Charpentier, Lully, and Rameau. Daucé's work has been recognized with a number of awards and honors, including the Prix des Muses and the Diapason d'Or. He has also been invited to serve as a guest conductor and lecturer at a number of universities and conservatories around the world, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Despite his success, Daucé remains committed to exploring new avenues in the field of early music. He is particularly interested in the intersection of music and theater, and has collaborated with a number of directors and choreographers to create innovative productions that bring the music of the Baroque era to life in new and exciting ways. Overall, Sébastien Daucé is a musician of exceptional talent and vision, whose work has helped to bring the music of the Baroque era to a wider audience. His innovative and dynamic performances, combined with his deep knowledge of historical performance practice, have made him one of the leading figures in the field of early music today.
