Dean Martin was an American singer, actor, and comedian who was born on June 7, 1917, in Steubenville, Ohio. He was the second of six children born to Italian immigrants, Gaetano and Angela Crocetti. Martin grew up in a working-class family and dropped out of high school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in entertainment. Martin began his career as a nightclub singer in the 1940s, performing with various bands in New York City. He gained national attention in 1946 when he teamed up with comedian Jerry Lewis to form one of the most successful comedy duos in history. Martin and Lewis appeared in numerous films together, including "My Friend Irma" (1949), "At War with the Army" (1950), and "The Caddy" (1953). In addition to his work with Lewis, Martin also pursued a successful solo career as a singer. He signed with Capitol Records in 1948 and released his first hit single, "That's Amore," in 1953. Martin's smooth, relaxed style and easygoing charm made him a favorite with audiences, and he became one of the most popular singers of the 1950s and 1960s. Martin's signature song, "Everybody Loves Somebody," was released in 1964 and became his first number one hit. He continued to record hit songs throughout the 1960s, including "Houston" (1965), "The Door Is Still Open to My Heart" (1966), and "Gentle on My Mind" (1968). In addition to his music career, Martin also appeared in numerous films and television shows. He starred in the popular television series "The Dean Martin Show" from 1965 to 1974, which featured musical performances, comedy sketches, and celebrity guests. Martin also appeared in films such as "Rio Bravo" (1959), "Ocean's Eleven" (1960), and "The Cannonball Run" (1981). Throughout his career, Martin received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to entertainment. He won a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the film "Some Came Running" (1958) and was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in "The Young Lions" (1958). Martin was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 for his recording of "That's Amore." Martin's legacy as a performer and entertainer continues to be celebrated today.
