Dick Haymes was an American singer and actor who was born on September 13, 1918, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents were British and Irish, and his father was a successful rancher. Haymes grew up in Argentina and attended school in Buenos Aires. He was interested in music from a young age and began singing in local clubs and theaters. In 1934, Haymes moved to the United States with his family and settled in Los Angeles, California. He continued to pursue his passion for music and began performing in local nightclubs. In 1939, he joined the Harry James Orchestra as a vocalist and quickly became a popular performer. He recorded several hit songs with the orchestra, including "You Made Me Love You" and "I'll Get By." In 1942, Haymes left the Harry James Orchestra and began a solo career. He signed with Decca Records and recorded several successful songs, including "It Can't Be Wrong" and "Together." He also began appearing in films, including "Four Jills in a Jeep" and "State Fair." Haymes continued to record and perform throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He recorded several popular songs, including "The More I See You" and "That's For Me." He also appeared in several films, including "Carnegie Hall" and "Irish Eyes Are Smiling." In 1953, Haymes moved to Europe and began performing in nightclubs and theaters. He continued to record and release albums, including "Moondreams" and "Rain or Shine." He also appeared in several European films, including "The French Line" and "The Girl Can't Help It." Haymes returned to the United States in the late 1950s and continued to perform and record. He appeared on several television shows, including "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Perry Como Show." He also recorded several albums, including "The Dick Haymes Show" and "The Great American Songbook." Haymes received several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1954, he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1999. Haymes was married six times and had five children. He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life and died on March 28, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 61. He is remembered as a talented singer and actor who made significant contributions to the world of classical music.
