He was the second youngest of six children and grew up in a musical family. His parents, Jay and Florence Williams, were both musicians and owned a local theater where they performed regularly. Williams began singing with his brothers in a quartet called the Williams Brothers, which became popular in the Midwest during the 1940s. In 1952, Williams moved to Los Angeles to pursue a solo career. He signed with Cadence Records and released his first single, "Walk Hand in Hand," in 1956. The song became a hit and launched Williams' career as a solo artist. He went on to record several more successful singles, including "Butterfly," "Canadian Sunset," and "Moon River." Williams' smooth, easy-listening style made him a popular performer in the 1960s and 1970s. He hosted his own television variety show, "The Andy Williams Show," from 1962 to 1971. The show featured Williams performing with guest stars and became a popular showcase for new talent. Williams also hosted several Christmas specials, which became a holiday tradition for many families. Throughout his career, Williams received several awards and honors. He won three Grammy Awards, including Best Male Vocal Performance for "Moon River" in 1962. He was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 for his recording of "Moon River." In addition, Williams received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1991. Williams continued to perform and record music throughout his life. He released his final album, "I Don't Remember Ever Growing Up," in 2007. Williams died on September 25, 2012, at the age of 84.
