Jaakko Kuusisto is a Finnish classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, violinist, and composer. Born on May 31, 1974, in Helsinki, Finland, Kuusisto grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Ilkka Kuusisto, is a composer, and his mother, Marja-Leena Pétas-Arjava, is a violinist. His older brother, Pekka Kuusisto, is also a renowned violinist. Kuusisto began playing the violin at the age of three and gave his first public performance at the age of six. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he received his diploma in violin performance in 1996. He also studied conducting with Jorma Panula and Atso Almila.
