Olli Mustonen is a Finnish classical pianist, conductor, and composer. He was born on June 7, 1967, in Helsinki, Finland. His father was a composer and his mother was a pianist, so music was a part of his life from a very young age. He began playing the piano at the age of five and gave his first public performance at the age of seven. Mustonen studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he was taught by Eero Heinonen and Ralf Gothóni. He also studied with Maria João Pires in Portugal and with Hans Leygraf in Germany. He won his first major competition, the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, in 1987, which launched his international career. Mustonen has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Sir Colin Davis, Sir Neville Marriner, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. One of Mustonen's most notable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1990, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. He has also performed at many of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. In addition to his career as a pianist, Mustonen is also a conductor and composer. He has conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
