Born on October 7, 1976, in Helsinki, Finland, Kuusisto grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Ilkka Kuusisto, is a composer, and his mother, Tuula Hällström, is a pianist. Kuusisto began playing the violin at the age of three and gave his first public performance at the age of six. Kuusisto's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. In 1995, at the age of 19, Kuusisto won the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world. This victory launched his career and led to numerous invitations to perform with major orchestras and conductors around the world. Kuusisto's performances are known for their energy, spontaneity, and creativity.
