Genre:FilmOrchestralNorthwest Sinfonia is a classical music ensemble based in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1991 by conductor David Sabee, the group has become one of the most respected and sought-after orchestras in the Pacific Northwest region. Sabee, a graduate of the University of Washington School of Music, had previously worked as a freelance cellist and conductor in Seattle before founding Northwest Sinfonia. His vision for the ensemble was to create a group of highly skilled musicians who could perform a wide range of classical repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary works. The ensemble's core members are drawn from the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, and other top orchestras in the region. These musicians bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the group, and their collective talent has helped to establish Northwest Sinfonia as a leading ensemble in the Pacific Northwest. One of the highlights of Northwest Sinfonia's early years was its collaboration with the Seattle Opera. In 1993, the ensemble performed in the world premiere of "The Picture of Dorian Gray," an opera by composer Lowell Liebermann and librettist Richard L. Maltby Jr. The production was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish Northwest Sinfonia as a versatile and dynamic ensemble capable of tackling complex and challenging works. In the years that followed, Northwest Sinfonia continued to build its reputation as a leading classical music ensemble. The group performed regularly with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and also collaborated with other major orchestras in the region, including the Oregon Symphony and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements came in 2002, when it was selected to record the score for the video game "Halo: Combat Evolved." The game, which was developed by Microsoft Game Studios, featured a sweeping orchestral score composed by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori. Northwest Sinfonia's recording of the score was widely praised for its high quality and helped to establish the group as a leader in the field of video game music. In the years that followed, Northwest Sinfonia continued to record music for video games, including the popular "World of Warcraft" series. The group also performed live concerts of video game music, including a sold-out performance at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle in 2007. Despite its success in the world of video game music, Northwest Sinfonia remained committed to performing traditional classical repertoire. The group continued to collaborate with major orchestras and soloists, and also performed its own concerts throughout the Pacific Northwest. One of the ensemble's most notable performances came in 2010, when it performed the world premiere of "The Planets - An HD Odyssey" at the Seattle Symphony Orchestra's Benaroya Hall. The production, which featured high-definition images of the planets and other celestial bodies, was a multimedia extravaganza that showcased Northwest Sinfonia's versatility and creativity. In addition to its performances, Northwest Sinfonia has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. The group has won multiple Grammy Awards for its recordings of video game music, and has also been recognized for its contributions to the classical music world. Today, Northwest Sinfonia continues to be a leading classical music ensemble in the Pacific Northwest.More....
