He was born on May 22, 1925, in Stockholm, Sweden. Frykberg's parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. He began playing the piano at the age of six and showed exceptional talent. Frykberg's musical education began at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and composer, Hilding Rosenberg. He later continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Rosina Lhévinne, a prominent piano teacher. Frykberg's career as a pianist began in the 1950s when he started performing in concerts across Europe and the United States. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and became known for his virtuosic performances. Frykberg's repertoire included works by some of the greatest composers of all time, including Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Schumann. One of Frykberg's most significant performances was at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1958. He performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the "Emperor" concerto, with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was a huge success, and Frykberg received critical acclaim for his interpretation of the piece. Frykberg also performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic.
