Composer:Giuseppe VerdiGenre:OperaStyle:OperaCompose Date:1871Average_duration:138:24Movement_count:42Movement ....'Aida' is an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. The opera was composed between 1870 and 1871, and premiered on December 24, 1871, at the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, Egypt. The opera is set in ancient Egypt and tells the story of the love triangle between the Ethiopian princess Aida, the Egyptian warrior Radamès, and the Egyptian princess Amneris. The opera is divided into four acts and features some of Verdi's most famous music, including the Triumphal March and the aria "Celeste Aida." The first act introduces the characters and sets the stage for the conflict between the Egyptians and the Ethiopians. Radamès is chosen to lead the Egyptian army against the Ethiopians, and Aida is revealed to be a slave in the Egyptian court, but secretly the daughter of the Ethiopian king. In the second act, Radamès returns victorious from battle and is hailed as a hero. Aida and Radamès confess their love for each other, but their happiness is short-lived when Amneris, who is in love with Radamès, discovers their relationship. The third act sees Radamès accused of treason for revealing military secrets to Aida. Amneris tries to save him by offering to marry him, but he refuses and is sentenced to death. Aida decides to join him in death, and they both await their fate in a tomb. The final act features the famous Triumphal March, as the Egyptians celebrate their victory over the Ethiopians. However, the celebration is cut short when it is discovered that Radamès and Aida have died in the tomb. Amneris mourns their loss, and the opera ends with a somber chorus. 'Aida' is known for its grand scale and spectacle, with elaborate sets and costumes. It is also notable for its use of exoticism, with its setting in ancient Egypt and its inclusion of African rhythms and melodies. The opera has remained popular since its premiere and is considered one of Verdi's greatest works.More....
