Born on 5th March 1938 in Bournemouth, England, Partridge grew up in a musical family. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a singer. Partridge's love for music was evident from a young age, and he began singing in the church choir at the age of seven. Partridge's musical education began at the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of Herbert Howells and Edward Bairstow. He later continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal for singing. Partridge's professional career began in 1963 when he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera as the First Armed Man in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional voice and was soon in demand as a soloist. He performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and conductors, including Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Colin Davis, and Sir Neville Marriner. One of Partridge's most significant achievements was his performance in Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" in 1963. The piece was written to commemorate the dead of World War II and was performed at the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral, which had been destroyed during the war.
