Role:Conductor PerformerGenre:ChoralBruno Turner was a renowned classical music artist who dedicated his life to the study and performance of early music. Born on August 28, 1931, in London, England, Turner grew up in a family that valued music and the arts. His father was a professional musician, and his mother was a painter. From a young age, Turner showed a keen interest in music, and he began playing the piano and the violin at the age of six. Turner's passion for music led him to study at the Royal College of Music in London, where he focused on the study of early music. He was particularly interested in the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and he spent many hours studying the works of composers such as Monteverdi, Palestrina, and Bach. After completing his studies, Turner began his career as a music teacher, working at various schools and colleges in England. However, he soon realized that his true passion lay in performing and promoting early music. In 1966, he founded the Early Music Consort of London, a group dedicated to the performance of early music using authentic instruments and techniques. Under Turner's leadership, the Early Music Consort of London quickly gained a reputation for excellence, and the group performed at major venues and festivals throughout Europe and the United States. The group's recordings, which included works by composers such as Dowland, Byrd, and Purcell, were widely praised for their authenticity and musicality. In addition to his work with the Early Music Consort of London, Turner was also a respected musicologist and scholar. He wrote numerous articles and books on early music, and he was a frequent lecturer and guest speaker at universities and music festivals around the world. Throughout his career, Turner received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the field of early music. In 1980, he was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to music, and in 1996, he was awarded the prestigious Praetorius Music Prize by the state of Lower Saxony in Germany. Despite his many accomplishments, Turner remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his life. He continued to perform and teach until his death on January 17, 2020, at the age of 88. His legacy lives on through his recordings, writings, and the countless musicians and music lovers he inspired throughout his career.More....
