Born on May 7, 1947, in Grenoble, France, Krivine was raised in a family of musicians. His father, René Krivine, was a violinist and conductor, and his mother, Solange Krivine, was a pianist. Krivine began playing the violin at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Krivine studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won first prize in violin in 1967.
