Christel Goltz was a renowned German soprano who was born on December 24, 1912, in Dortmund, Germany. She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father recognized her talent for singing at an early age and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Goltz began her musical training at the Dortmund Conservatory, where she studied piano and voice. She later continued her studies at the Berlin State Opera School, where she was trained by the famous soprano Lula Mysz-Gmeiner. Goltz made her debut in 1935 at the Berlin State Opera as the First Lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute." Goltz quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dramatic stage presence. She became a leading soprano at the Berlin State Opera and performed in many of the company's productions. In 1938, she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival, where she sang the role of Sieglinde in Wagner's "Die Walküre." In 1955, she was awarded the title of Kammersängerin by the Berlin State Opera. She was also awarded the Order of Merit of Berlin and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Goltz retired from the stage in 1972, after a career that spanned over 35 years. She continued to teach voice at the Berlin University of the Arts until her death in 2008 at the age of 95.
