The Vienna Chamber Choir is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 70 years. The choir was founded in 1947 by Hans Gillesberger, a prominent Austrian conductor and music educator, with the aim of promoting choral music in Vienna and beyond. Under Gillesberger's leadership, the Vienna Chamber Choir quickly established itself as one of the leading choral ensembles in Europe. The choir's repertoire spans a wide range of musical styles, from Renaissance and Baroque music to contemporary works, and they are known for their impeccable vocal technique and expressive interpretations. Over the years, the Vienna Chamber Choir has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Vienna Musikverein, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, and the Vienna Philharmonic. One of the highlights of the Vienna Chamber Choir's career was their performance at the opening ceremony of the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. The choir performed a specially commissioned work by Austrian composer Gottfried von Einem, which was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. The Vienna Chamber Choir has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades for their outstanding performances and contributions to the world of choral music. In 1974, they were awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor, and in 1997 they received the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art. Despite the passing of Hans Gillesberger in 2002, the Vienna Chamber Choir continues to thrive under the leadership of their current conductor, Michael Grohotolsky. They remain committed to promoting choral music through their performances, recordings, and educational programs, and are widely regarded as one of the finest choral ensembles in the world.
