He was the son of a French father and a Russian mother, both of whom were musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. Edmond grew up in a musical environment, and he started playing the piano at a very young age. Edmond's talent for music was evident from an early age, and he began studying at the Paris Conservatory when he was just six years old. He studied under some of the most renowned teachers of the time, including Marguerite Long, Marcel Ciampi, and Yvonne Lefébure. He was a prodigious student, and he won numerous awards and prizes during his time at the conservatory. After completing his studies at the Paris Conservatory, Edmond began his professional career as a concert pianist. He made his debut in 1948, performing with the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire.
