The Copenhagen Boys' Choir is a world-renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over 80 years. The choir was founded in 1924 by composer and conductor Mogens Wöldike, who was inspired by the tradition of boys' choirs in Germany and Austria. Since then, the choir has become one of the most respected and beloved musical institutions in Denmark, and has performed all over the world. The Copenhagen Boys' Choir is made up of boys between the ages of 9 and 14, who are selected through a rigorous audition process. The choir is divided into four sections: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. The boys receive intensive training in vocal technique, music theory, and performance, and are known for their impeccable intonation, clarity of tone, and expressive phrasing. Over the years, the Copenhagen Boys' Choir has performed with some of the world's most renowned conductors and orchestras, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and the Berlin Philharmonic. They have also collaborated with a wide range of artists, from pop stars like Sting and Elton John to classical musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell. One of the highlights of the Copenhagen Boys' Choir's career was their performance at the wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in 2004. The choir sang a beautiful rendition of the Danish national anthem, "Der er et yndigt land," which was broadcast live to millions of viewers around the world. The choir has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1955, they were awarded the prestigious Edison Award for their recording of Bach's St. Matthew Passion. They have also been awarded the Danish Music Award for Best Classical Album multiple times, most recently in 2019 for their album "Nordic Sound." In addition to their performances and recordings, the Copenhagen Boys' Choir is also committed to music education and outreach. They offer a variety of programs for young singers, including a choir school and a summer camp, and they frequently perform in schools and community centers throughout Denmark. Despite their many accomplishments, the Copenhagen Boys' Choir remains dedicated to their mission of sharing the beauty and power of choral music with audiences around the world. Their commitment to excellence and their passion for music continue to inspire and delight audiences of all ages.
