Peter Kooy is a renowned Dutch bass-baritone who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on 16th May 1954 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Kooy grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a singer. Kooy's parents recognized his musical talent at an early age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Kooy began his musical training at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he studied voice with Jan Veth and Max van Egmond. He later continued his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he studied with Charles van Tassel. During his studies, Kooy developed a deep passion for early music, particularly the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Kooy's career as a professional musician began in the early 1980s when he joined the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, led by the renowned conductor and harpsichordist, Ton Koopman.
