Artist Info
Role:Conductor PerformerGenre:ChoralGerhard Schmidt-Gaden was a renowned classical music artist who was born on August 22, 1943, in Munich, Germany. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Gerhard showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Gerhard's talent was quickly recognized, and he began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Karl Richter. Under Richter's guidance, Gerhard's skills as a pianist flourished, and he soon began performing in public concerts. At the age of 16, Gerhard won first prize in the Munich Music Competition, which marked the beginning of his successful career as a classical music artist. After completing his studies at the Munich Conservatory, Gerhard went on to study with the legendary pianist, Wilhelm Kempff, in Italy. Kempff was impressed with Gerhard's talent and invited him to perform with him in concerts across Europe. This was a significant turning point in Gerhard's career, as it gave him the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences and gain international recognition. Throughout his career, Gerhard performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his exceptional technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. Gerhard's repertoire was vast and included works by some of the greatest composers of all time, such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Schumann. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Bach, and his recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations and Partitas are considered some of the best ever recorded. In addition to his performances, Gerhard was also a respected teacher and mentor to many young pianists. He taught at the Munich Conservatory and the Salzburg Mozarteum, and his students went on to have successful careers as pianists in their own right. Throughout his career, Gerhard received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1993 and was made an honorary citizen of his hometown of Munich in 2003. In 2008, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, one of the country's highest honors. Gerhard continued to perform and teach until his death on December 30, 2011, at the age of 68. His legacy as a pianist and teacher lives on, and his recordings and performances continue to inspire and move audiences around the world.More....
