Born on September 5, 1989, in the town of Denham, Buckinghamshire, England, Bliss showed an early interest in music and began playing the clarinet at the age of four. His father, a jazz musician, was his first teacher, and Bliss quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. As a child, Bliss was already performing in public, and by the age of six, he had won his first competition. He continued to win numerous awards and accolades throughout his childhood and teenage years, including the title of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2002, at the age of just 12. Bliss went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he was mentored by renowned clarinetist Michael Collins. He also studied with Sabine Meyer in Germany and Yehuda Gilad in the United States. Throughout his career, Bliss has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's top conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Mark Elder, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. One of Bliss's most notable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2005, where he performed Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The performance was widely praised, and Bliss was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. Bliss has also made a name for himself as a chamber musician, performing with some of the world's leading ensembles, including the Carducci Quartet and the Nash Ensemble. He has also formed his own ensemble, the Julian Bliss Septet, which specializes in jazz and swing music. In addition to his performing career, Bliss is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Royal College of Music in London and is a visiting professor at the University of Indiana in the United States. He also runs his own music festival, the Julian Bliss Septet Festival, which takes place annually in the town of Tetbury, England. Bliss has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award in 2008 and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2010. He was also named an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 2014, in recognition of his services to music. Despite his many achievements, Bliss remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach around the world, and his passion for music is evident in everything he does. With his talent, dedication, and love for music, Julian Bliss is sure to remain a major figure in the classical music world for many years to come.More....
