Artist Info
Birth:1985Terry Wey is a Swiss countertenor who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on May 11, 1985, in Zurich, Switzerland, Wey grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a conductor and his mother was a singer, so it was only natural that Wey would develop a love for music at a young age. Wey began his musical training at the Zurich Conservatory, where he studied piano and voice. He later went on to study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Switzerland, where he focused on early music and the art of singing in the countertenor range. Wey's career as a professional musician began in 2007, when he made his debut as a soloist with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. Since then, he has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and opera companies, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera. One of Wey's most notable performances was his portrayal of the role of Ottone in Handel's opera "Agrippina" at the Royal Opera House in London in 2019. The production was directed by Barrie Kosky and received critical acclaim for its innovative staging and Wey's powerful performance. Wey has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious ECHO Klassik award for his recording of Handel's "Rinaldo" with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. He has also been awarded the Swiss Music Prize and the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes. In addition to his work as a performer, Wey is also a passionate advocate for the arts. He has worked with various organizations to promote music education and has served as a mentor to young musicians. Wey's repertoire includes a wide range of music, from early Baroque to contemporary works. He is particularly known for his interpretations of Handel's operas and oratorios, as well as his performances of Bach's cantatas and Passions. Wey's voice has been described as "pure and ethereal" and his performances as "emotionally charged" and "captivating." He is known for his ability to convey the meaning and emotion behind the music he sings, and for his impeccable technique and control. Despite his success, Wey remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to work tirelessly to perfect his art and to bring the beauty of classical music to audiences around the world.More....
