Hilary Davan Wetton is a renowned British conductor and choral specialist, known for his exceptional musicianship and dedication to the art of classical music. Born on September 13, 1946, in London, England, Wetton grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father was a professional violinist, and his mother was a pianist and music teacher. Wetton began his musical education at the age of six, studying piano and violin. He later attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied conducting under Sir Adrian Boult and composition under Richard Rodney Bennett. Wetton also studied at the University of Cambridge, where he earned a degree in music. After completing his studies, Wetton began his career as a conductor, working with various orchestras and choirs in the UK. He quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional musicianship and ability to bring out the best in his performers. In 1970, he was appointed the conductor of the City of London Choir, a position he held for over a decade. Throughout his career, Wetton has conducted numerous orchestras and choirs, both in the UK and abroad. He has worked with some of the world's most renowned musicians, including Plácido Domingo, Kiri Te Kanawa, and José Carreras. He has also conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. One of Wetton's most notable achievements was his work with the London Mozart Players. He served as the orchestra's principal conductor from 1984 to 1992, during which time he led the ensemble to great success. Under his leadership, the London Mozart Players became one of the UK's most respected and sought-after orchestras. Wetton has also been recognized for his work as a choral conductor. He has conducted many of the UK's leading choirs, including the BBC Singers, the London Philharmonic Choir, and the Royal Choral Society. He has also conducted many international choirs, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Choir and the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus. In addition to his work as a conductor, Wetton is also a prolific recording artist. He has recorded over 100 albums, many of which have received critical acclaim.
