Gomez began her musical training at the age of 16 when she joined the Royal Manchester College of Music. She studied under the tutelage of Frederic Cox, who was a renowned vocal coach. During her time at the college, Gomez won several awards, including the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to young singers who show exceptional promise. After completing her studies, Gomez made her professional debut in 1968 at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. She played the role of Barbarina in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," which was a huge success. This performance marked the beginning of a long and illustrious career for Gomez.
