Ricardo Requejo is a renowned classical pianist and music educator. He was born on October 22, 1965, in Madrid, Spain. From a young age, Requejo showed a natural talent for music, and he began studying piano at the age of six. He quickly progressed and was soon performing in public concerts. Requejo continued his musical education at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist Joaquín Soriano. He also studied with other notable pianists, including Alicia de Larrocha and Maria João Pires. In 1986, Requejo won first prize in the National Piano Competition in Spain, which launched his career as a professional pianist. He went on to win numerous other awards, including the International Piano Competition in Santander, Spain, and the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona. Requejo has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to his career as a performer, Requejo is also a highly respected music educator. He has taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, sharing his knowledge and expertise with aspiring musicians. Requejo is known for his passionate and expressive performances, which showcase his technical mastery and deep understanding of the music he plays. He has a particular affinity for the music of Spanish and Latin American composers, and has recorded several albums featuring their works. One of Requejo's most notable performances was his 1995 recital at Carnegie Hall, which was hailed by critics as a triumph. The New York Times praised his "brilliant technique and interpretive insight," while the Washington Post called him "a pianist of extraordinary talent and sensitivity." Requejo has also been recognized for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2003, he was awarded the National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a performer and educator. He has also been honored by the governments of Austria and Germany for his contributions to music. Despite his many accomplishments, Requejo remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
