Bertrand Chamayou is a French classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and interpretations of a wide range of repertoire. Born on January 23, 1981, in Toulouse, France, Chamayou began playing the piano at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Chamayou studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he was a student of Jean-François Heisser and later of Maria João Pires. He also received guidance from renowned pianists such as Murray Perahia, Leon Fleisher, and Dmitri Bashkirov. In 2001, Chamayou won the first prize at the International Maria Canals Piano Competition in Barcelona, which launched his career as a soloist. He has since performed with major orchestras around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Chamayou is known for his versatility and his ability to bring out the unique character of each piece he performs. He has a particular affinity for the music of Franz Liszt, and his recording of Liszt's complete Années de pèlerinage won the prestigious Diapason d'Or award in 2012. He has also recorded works by Schumann, Ravel, Debussy, and Saint-Saëns, among others. One of Chamayou's most notable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2014, where he played Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Lionel Bringuier.
