He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a well-known violinist. Brailowsky began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He received his early musical education from his mother, who was a pianist, and later studied under the tutelage of Felix Blumenfeld, a famous pianist and composer. In 1911, Brailowsky made his debut performance at the age of 15 in Kiev, where he played Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1.
