Mike Fentross is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a lute player and conductor. Born in the Netherlands, Fentross grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. He began playing the guitar at the age of 10 and later switched to the lute, which became his primary instrument. Fentross studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he received his degree in lute performance. He also studied with renowned lute players such as Hopkinson Smith and Paul O'Dette, who had a significant influence on his musical style. Fentross began his career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing in various festivals and concerts across Europe. He quickly gained recognition for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the nuances of the music he played. He also became known for his innovative interpretations of early music, which breathed new life into centuries-old compositions. In addition to his work as a soloist, Fentross has also collaborated with many leading ensembles and orchestras. He has worked with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and the Academy of Ancient Music, among others. He has also conducted several ensembles, including the Netherlands Bach Society and the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. One of the highlights of Fentross's career was his performance at the 2010 Utrecht Early Music Festival, where he played a solo recital of works by Johann Sebastian Bach. The performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and it cemented Fentross's reputation as one of the leading lute players of his generation. Fentross has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Dutch Music Prize, which is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a classical musician in the Netherlands. He has also been awarded the Edison Classical Music Award and the Diapason d'Or, among other honors. Despite his many accomplishments, Fentross remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record regularly, and he is always looking for new ways to explore the rich and varied repertoire of early music. His passion for the lute and his commitment to excellence have made him a beloved figure in the classical music world, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.
